The project 'Golden Scarabée, a challenge for Youth'
Autochille Citroën B2 model K1, the Scarabée d'Or was the first motorized vehicle in history to cross the Sahara in 1922. By organizing this pioneering expedition, André Citroën demonstrates to the world the reliability of the cars of his brand. This human epic commissioned by George-Marie Haardt and Louis Audouin-Dubreuil was the prelude to the famous Cruises Black and Yellow Citroën which followed in 1924 and 1931.
Today, the Golden Scarabée is at the heart of a project entrusted to students: 'Golden Scarabée, a challenge for Youth'. The project aims to rebuild the Golden Scarabea. Proposed by the association 'Des Voitures & des Hommes' in partnership with the Museum of Arts and Crafts, Citroën and the Peugeot Citroën DS Adventure, this bold project launched in June 2016, will be finalized in 2019.
The students of the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Arts et Métiers (ENSAM, Cluny-71 campus) and the Lycée des métiers de l'automobile and transport are in charge of the Epluches Castle (Saint-Ouen l'Aumône - 95) of the reconstruction of the vehicle. The first mission is to model the original Gold Scarabée exhibited at the Citroën Conservatory and to realize all the plans, while the latter have to redo the body and the engine.
The Gold Scarabee participates in the Science Festival
From 10 to 15 October, the Scarabée d'Or will be present at the Museum of Arts and Crafts of Paris as part of the Science Festival. It will be exhibited in the Saint-Martin church, next to the Foucault pendulum and under Blériot's plane.
Throughout the week, the association 'Cars and Men' will welcome the public to present the project. The students of the Lycée, the Arts et Métiers and the Image Institute, as well as Glasurit, will make daily lectures to inform the public about the progress of their work on the reconstruction project of this legendary Citroën Citroën.

Multiple inputs: loan of the vehicle, mediatization of the adventure and implication without fault make possible and reinforce the momentum around the Scarabée d'Or.
The Conservatoire de la Marque hopes to be able to exhibit the "new" Golden Scarabée alongside the historic vehicle for the centennial celebrations of the Marque in 2019.
