Berlingo First

Zoom

The first-generation Berlingo keeps its place in the current range under the name of Berlingo First, with a basic trim level designed to expand the Marque's offering.

First launched in 1996, the Berlingo (First) was the first small van designed specifically as such, with a seamlessly integrated load area. It was also the first LCV to incorporate a range of design, comfort and handling features previously reserved for passenger vehicles.

Generous dimensions and functions

Berlingo First measures 4.14 m long and 1.72 wide and features load volume of 3m3 and payload of 600 kg or 800 kg depending on the sales market.

It can also carry loads measuring up to 1.70m in length, or even 2.10m with the multifunction passenger seat. A sliding side door is available on all versions for easy access to the load area.

Styled to express professional drive

With the Berlingo First, Citroën shows that it is possible for a commercial vehicle to combine excellent functional qualities – loading volume and payload, robust strength and economy – with attractive styling.

With its generous volumes and taut lines, the Berlingo First expresses power and durability. Distinctive features include the chunky side mouldings, wraparound bumper and high-mounted headlamps to avoid minor impacts.

A functional and comfortable cabin

The interior of the Berlingo First is similar to that of a passenger vehicle, with its hatchback-style driving position and wide range of equipment. It features variable power steering as standard, along with optional air conditioning, CD audio system and cruise-control/speed limiter system to make life easier for users.

The Plus Pack rounds out the range of equipment available. It includes central locking, plip control, power defrosting rearview mirrors and power window lifts.

Reinforced safety

The Berlingo First can be fitted with driver and passenger airbags as well as ABS with electronic brakeforce distribution. To carry loads safely, the load area is fitted with six lashing hooks. It also features a number of bulkheads, including a mid-height bulkhead with meshing.

To cope with a full range of – sometimes extreme – uses, the Berlingo First can be fitted with offroad suspension, raised by 15 mm, and a skid plate. In France, the Berlingo First features this suspension as standard.

Well matched engines

Depending on the country, the Berlingo First comes with two engines,  one diesel (HDi 75) and one petrol (1.4i). These proven engines combine economy with low environmental impact. The HDi engine, for example, consumes 5.4l/100 km over a combined cycle for 143g/km of CO2.

In some countries, the Berlingo First 1.4i is available in a dual-fuel petrol/CNG version. This version respects the environment (CO2 emissions reduced by 18 %) while cutting running costs, since the CNG tank increases the vehicle's operating range by around 300 km. With this CNG engine, the Berlingo First qualifies for Citroën's Airdream® eco-label.
