Gutenberg's factory

The Company in 1927

  • The Gutenberg factory comes on line in Paris, making engines and gearboxes.

  • Subsidiaries are set up in Lisbon and Tunis. Citroën factories in France and abroad cover a total area of 762,000 m2 and employ a workforce of 31,000.The production rate reaches 400 vehicles per day, a level unprecedented in Europe, paving the way for substantial reductions in vehicle prices.

  • During the Paris Motor Show, André Citroën organizes immensely successful public tours of his factories.

  • The number of Citroëns on the road totals 319,074.

  • Annual production : 76 077 vehicles.



The models in 1927

  • In March, the B14 is replaced by the B14F, a vehicle with a more robust engine and four-wheel brakes with vacuum servo assistance. From September 1926 to December 1927, 60,526 examples of the B14 and B14F are made.

  • At the Paris Motor Show, the B14G replaces the B14F. It is equipped with a 1,539 cm3 engine developing 22 bhp at 2,300 rpm and a 3-speed gearbox. Rated 9 bhp, the B14G achieves 80 km/h and consumes 8.5 litres/100 km. It is built as an open tourer, saloon, hard-top and convertible. From September 1927 to October 1928, some 59,391 B14Gs are produced.

  • December sees the arrival of the B18, a special version of the B14G with a wider track. From December 1927 to August 1928, 5,707 B18s are built.

  • The B14 taxi replaces the taxi versions of the A and the B2. It is equipped with a 1,539 cm3 engine developing 22 bhp at 2,300 rpm and a 3-speed gearbox. Rated 9 bhp, the vehicle achieves speeds of 80 km/h and consumes 8.5 litres/100 km. Three types of body are available: limousine, saloon and convertible. Most are painted yellow and black. A total 4,659 are produced.

  • Civil war breaks out in China. Mao Tse-Tung creates the Popular Liberation Army.
  • Trans-oceanic radio communications begin to develop. Compagnie Générale de l'Aérospatiale is set up in France. The American Charles Lindbergh flies across the Atlantic solo in the Spirit of St. Louis. Covering 5,809 km in 33 hours and 30 minutes, he declares that he used the illuminated Eiffel Tower as a beacon. André Citroën organizes a special reception at the Javel factory where 10,000 workers gather to applaud the aviator.
  • Mac Orlan writes Quai des Brumes and François Mauriac Thérèse Desqueyroux. Mondrian paints his Composition in Red, Yellow and Blue.
  • Abel Gance completes the film Napoléon.
