Berlingo Raid
Citroën has spent almost the last thirty years taking cars, and the passport to knowledge and freedom that goes with them, directly to the younger generation. Citroën is keeping up its tradition by associating a Berlingo Rallye with the Paris-Samarkand-Moscow Master Rallye organized by MMG (Master rallyes/Master Group/Groine Team). This event, which counts for the All-Terrain Rallye World Cup, will take place between August 20 and September 6, 1997 and will bring the curtain down on the participation of ZX Rallye-Raid models after eight years of flawless and successful racing (30 wins out of 36 races to date). The objective of the Berlingo international rallye, covering some 8,500 km (5,300 miles) and taking in a section of the "silk road", is to enable young enthusiasts between the ages of 18 and 35 to discover unknown landscapes and to experience the daily atmosphere of an all-terrain rallye: the race, the preparation and the bivouacs.
Citroën has set out to give the Berlingo Rallye a very clear-cut European flavour. So besides France, other countries taking part will include Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Guadeloup, Hongria, Italy, Martinica, Netherlands, Portugal, Poland, Slovacq Republic, Spain, Switzerland, Tcheck Republic. In all, about 150 Berlingo Multispace vehicles and 300 young drivers will be hitting the trails of Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Ouzebekistan and Russia. French and foreign crews will leave from Paris on August 23 and head for Venice, where vehicles will embark for Aktau on the shores of the Caspian sea. All Berlingo Rallye crews will be given logistical support and assistance.
